1. How do I apply for a job on board a cruise ship?
  Surprisingly, applying for a cruise ship job is not as difficult as you think. All you require to apply for a job on board is to visit our site www.cruisecareers.in , click on jobs on board and upload your CV. Alternatively if you do not have your CV ready at this time, you can even email it to us on careers.india@pocruises.com, mentioning the post applied for in the subject column, preferably with all photocopies of all relevant educational and professional certificates.
   
2. Do I have to pay any money at the time of applying or after selection as commission?
  No, you pay absolutely no money at the time of applying or after selection as commission. Your selection is purely based on merit. The only expenses that you incur prior to joining a ship are for your travel documents like a CDC. For more details regarding our recruitment policies, please click this link.
   
3. What travel documents are required once selected in order to work on board?
  You will require a passport, valid for at least one year at the start of the tour of duty. Subject to the ship that you will join, you will also require a valid US C1D visa or any other visas’ as applicable. In addition to this you will also be required to apply for a Bermuda CDC (Certificate of continuous discharge booklet) prior to joining.
   
4. If I do not hold an Indian passport, am I eligible to apply for a job?
  Yes, you can still apply mentioning all your particulars. If your profile fits the job applied for then we will refer you to our associate brands and you will be called for an interview.

5. What are the health requirements i.e. immunization, medical examination etc.?
  On selection, you must pass a medical examination as per company policies. Apart from this, a Yellow Fever Immunization has to be taken prior to joining, especially if the ships itineraries include the Yellow Fever Zones.
   
6. What about medical treatment while onboard a ship?
  A fully equipped medical centre will take care of all medical requirements on board the ship free of cost. If required, the ship will arrange hospitalization in a port or fly you back home, all at company cost
   
7. Do I have to pay for airfare?
  No. The company will pay for flight costs incurred to join a ship and on completing the stipulated length of your contract will fly you back on company cost
   
8. What are the tax laws regarding income earned on a cruise ship?
  As per prevailing Indian taxation laws, if you work overseas for a period of 180 days, then you are eligible for an NRE status. This NRE status allows you to obtain a full rebate on income generated overseas. For more details, please consult a Chartered Accountant.
   
9. Do I get paid when I am on leave?
  Normally and as per company policy, you will be paid only for the time that you serve on board. However certain senior ranks do enjoy a continuous pay policy.
   
10. Can my family travel with me on board?
  Upon completion of a stipulated number of years with the company, you may be eligible to bring your family on board. This is however subject to cabin availability, visas etc and is completely on company discretion.

11. Is the food and accommodation free for us onboard a cruise ship and what are the living arrangements for crew?

12. Do I have to pay uniforms on board?
  No, the company provides your uniforms free of charge.
   
13. Do I get to go out of the ship when the ship is in port?
  Yes, you are free to visit the ports of call, during your off-duty hours, subject to local immigration laws.
   
14. Are there any recreational areas on a cruise ship for crew members?
  Yes, our cruise ships are equipped with a crew gym, a crew bar and a crew deck with swimming pool, Jacuzzis and mini cricket and football pitches. For more information please click life on board.
   
15. Can I do shopping when the ship is in port?
  Yes, you can purchase goods when you are ashore (all valuable goods need to be declared on the Customs Declaration Form). In fact, you enjoy great crew discounts when you purchase anything from the ship’s shopping center.

16. What are the policies of cruise lines towards use of drugs and narcotics?
  We follow a Zero Tolerance policy on Drugs or Narcotics. If found in possession, you automatically lose your job and are disembarked immediately. You may even be tried in a court of law as per the laws of the country that you may be in and imprisoned.
   
17. What is the standard length of a contract on a cruise ship?
  In most cases, you work between six and ten months contracts, depending on your position. Contracts can be extended or curtailed at the discretion of the shipboard management.
   
18. Can I indicate a preference of ship that I want to join?
  As per company policies, you are required to work on board any ship in the fleet allocated to you. However you may indicate your preference and subject to availability we will try to accommodate your request.
